On Friday, March 30, over 50 students from the College of Graduate Health Sciences attended a workshop to learn how to create curriculum vitaes (CV). Using Skype, Dr. Bill Lester (Ph.D. 97) shared best practices for preparing a CV and fielded questions from the audience. Dr. Lester, a Medical Liaison, believes it’s important to give back. “As an alumnus, I want the students to understand just how vast the pharmaceutical industry is and how many job possibilities there are. It’s my duty to help the students appreciate the fact that Ph.D. training provides them with the skills to be successful in a limitless number of roles across the industry. Also, it’s important for them to realize that they must learn to market themselves in a competitive market.”
Attendees received a workbook and handouts with helpful tips and examples of professional and appropriate CVs. Feedback from students was positive related to the applicability of the information for creating a CV while communicating interest in future topics such as interviewing techniques, evolving trends, and job hunting.
The College of Graduate Health Sciences and Student Academic Support Services hosted the workshop. Special thanks to Dr. Bill Lester for his time and expertise.
